Hummel takes a logistical and digital leap with its new giant storage and distribution center in Denmark. A key component is the 100 AutoStore Black Line robots implemented by Element Logic, which will handle most of the warehouse’s picking. Thanks to Black Line’s innovative battery technology and larger bins, Hummel is guaranteed the highest possible efficiency, as the robots change the battery themselves and can run 24 hours a day.
The biggest investment in Hummel’s history
“Hummel is a well-known brand in the market and it makes us proud to be the ones to deliver the first Danish warehouse with Black Line robots to Hummel. The flexibility and capacity of AutoStore is a good match for the growth journey that Hummel is embarking on, as the AutoStore warehouse can easily be expanded and adapted to the growth of the business,” says Nikolaj Bjørn Eriksen, Managing Director of Element Logic Denmark.
Hummel’s high-tech warehouse and distribution center is the largest investment in Hummel’s history with a size totaling over 20,000 m2 and will serve more than 30 markets. It has an ideal location close to the highway and situated close to the Danish-German border.
Reduces manual picking
“The Black Line technology ultimately proved to be the right solution for Hummel, as the larger bins make it possible to store a higher percentage of goods. This reduces the proportion of manual picking and increases efficiency,” Eriksen explains.
He adds that the robots’ high speed and automatic battery change were two other important criteria for Hummel.
